    Default Contemporary Composers Poll #17

Weekends often wreak havoc on my mental energy for these sorts of things, as I work long weekends and still have to find the time and energy to knock out some of that Monday homework load for my Manufacturing and Machine Design classes :/ Let's get this baby back on track though!

First time in a while that I have to say I haven't listened to anything by any of these composers. I don't think I've even heard of any of them. I guess I can wait to see who's more popular from here, but any highlights from this list that I should know about?

Surely Alexander Goehr is the best known from this list, being a primary cohort of Birtwistle and Maxwell Davies.

For the rest of them, Hespos is relatively well known but poorly recorded relative to his output. Hersch is coming on really strong; given his age, we can expect great things. I know Lope is a big fan of both of these guys, and I owe my own fandom to him in these cases.

Marco has a sizeable discography as well, between Verso, Col Legno, BIS, Naxos, and so on... The rest of the list is varying degrees of small discographies, albeit generally on solid labels.

Only Goehr (Marching to Carcassonne, Little Symphony,...), although I may have heard some Hersch as well. Just can't recall what.

Add: for those who don't know the piece, Marching to Carcassonne is neo-Classical.

Some names are known to me but honestly I don't remember if I have ever listened to their music.
Coluccino is the only one I'm sure I have heard some music of.

    Goehr, Hespos, Eichberg, Marco, Hersch.

    (Hespos wasn´t registered).

    All represented by recordings.

Marco´s guitar concerto is my favourite Spanish guitar piece, and very accessible.
Hespos´ style is condensed and very, very expressive.

Only Goehr -- parts of "Marching to Carcassonne" and -- something about Colossus (or Colossos) ? I can't remember the full title. Wonderful album nonetheless.

Well we know deprofundis isn't polling it up. He wouldn't shut up about Xu Shuya for a while

And if Morimur had stopped by, he wouldn't have been able to resist posting about the extent to which he enjoyed voting for Hespos and Hersch.

Not only I have not heard any music by these composers, but...
I have never heard of any of these composers.

Which is odd: most of the polls so far include at least two or three names I have heard of, even if I do not have any of their work.

I applaud your efforts for awareness, Mr. Nathan. I'll check these unknown-for-me composers soon enough. Any specific works of these composers you'd like to recommend?

A clean sweep this time. I've not heard anything by any of these composers.
