Thread: please help

Hi, I'm new here. This intro is from the black metal artist Slagmaur which includes excellent classical piece(s) in the background. Could you please listen the whole intro and let me know what composer and the piece(s) are these? Also, please let me know some other composers that would fit in to this style.

I'd say it's excellent. It's from Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet ballet. It's one of the bits that gets onto the excerpt albums, or the suites, but I'd recommend you buy the whole ballet. I don't know about the "other composers that would fit in to this style" part. There's of course a lot more music by Prokofiev himself, ballets, symphonies, concerti, film music, cantatas, operas, solo piano, violin, cello, and flute sonatas. Peter and the Wolf, of course. (Which is from around the same time as Romeo & Juliet.)

There are similar moments to this in Semyon Kotko (but even more intense) and in Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible. I know people will doubtless mention music by Shostakovich, but I never found his music to be very much like Prokofiev's. Oddly enough, just for the sound, Kabalevsky AT HIS BEST (which isn't all that much, really) sounds more like Prokofiev than Shostakovich. But you may find, as I eventually did, that Shostakovich is satisfying, too, in his own way.

There are some similarities between all the Russians. Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mosolov, Glinka, Miaskovsky, Shchedrin and so forth (just as there are between Ustvolskaya, Gubaidulina, Denisov, Schnittke, and Tarnopolski, for that matter).
