The software, when uploading to the site, is not supposed to change the orientation of the JPG image.

    From a vBulletin tech site:

At this time we do not have any plans on upgrading to version 5 of vBulletin. I've seen v5 on another site and ... it's horrid ... and very difficult to navigate ... all the things we are so familiar with on this version or gone on v5 ... completely gone, like forever.
Thank you for that explanation. They were taken in portrait mode but it's a new phone. I can easily rotate them manually prior to upload. By the way, I created a 'Russian Composers' in my profile album. I uploaded a picture of 'The Mighty Handful' but still have to figure more out.

But it does in some cases - I also encountered it, and a member of the admin/mods team said it had to do with the size.

Same image, edited to make it smaller (from 3864x5152 to 750x1000) - upload OK.

Ahah ... the size may be the problem. JPG's are restricted to a maximum size of 1680 x 1680. Images larger than that could be being altered by the software to make it fit, and, who knows, the vBulletin way may be to default to landscape.

I’ve been uploading images to my TC posts directly from my computer. Is there a reason why it is preferable to use a third party website to create a URL?

Yes. One reason is that registered members storage capacity is not infinite on our servers. The limit is 52 Mb for all attachments.

Anything uploaded to our servers should be in compliance with copyright laws. We don't go looking at every image seeking copyright infringement(s), but if we are notified by the legal owner, and they demand it be removed, we will remove it.

If the link is used, the actual image is not uploaded to our servers and is not subject to copyright compliance.

It appears I have reached the capacity limit as I have had a message suggesting that when trying to add images this evening, how do I get capacity back? Remove older images from years back?
    Hopefully not manually!

If you're using attachments, then you (and Krummhorn) have a problem. You can't delete attachments because they are fixed in old posts so Krummhorn has to go in and delete the files and update the system to give you more room. Send him a PM.

That's why we suggest that as far as possible you use links. When the attachment is deleted, the old post using it will have a blank space. That's why it's useful ,especially in current listening, to include some text to explain about the picture so if the attachment (or the link) dies then the post still makes sense.

    Thanks for the reply.
Don't worry Taggart, with the help of Ken's earlier posts I've worked out how to use links - only remaining question is if I take a picture on my phone to use of something not readily available on the internet, how do I post that pic?
I previously saved the pic to a file on my laptop then uploaded.

See Ken's post about using imgur (or similar).
