    I think it's by J.S. Bach. I sequenced a tiny bit of it in a MIDI sequencer and made a YouTube video of it, which isn't turning up in the search results for some reason. Anyway, here it is:

    It sounds to me like you're remembering the slow movement from the f minor Harpsichord Concerto. This is often played alone under the title 'Arioso'. It's not the exactly the same but have a listen to it on youtube

    here

    and see if it reminds you of anything.
