    Default Trump, the Opera

    I beat you to it.

OK, John Adams, eat your heart out.

I have the good taste not to consider writing this. Not saying I don't like Trump or do like him, just talking about music here.

I think Wagner beat everyone to it when he wrote 'Siegfried'. We are currently in Act 2, with Trump having just slayed the dragon.

Don't you mean the evil witch? No, wait, that's Humperdinck. Little Donnie and his sister Melania are sent into the haunted forest to find food...

A commission from the new Republican administration to compose such a stage work would appear to have all the hallmarks of that poisoned chalice of a commission given by the Nazi authorities to Franz Schmidt to compose Deutsche Auferstehung in celebration of the ongoing achievements of the Dritte Reich, a commission which, however, the composer undoubtedly only accepted in the certainty that he would not live to complete the work.

Doesn't that implicitly oblige you now to compose it?

The sheer dignity with which she has omitted to retort that Trump's infamous tweet about her identifies him as "the most overrated President-Elect since American independence" does great credit to an actor whom it would in any case be very hard to overrate; but be careful what you wish for - she's already sung the part of Florence Foster Jenkins!...

With great success I might add.

Incoming news, she's nominated for that role for the Oscar.

I just hope they're able to find a libretto that's under 140 characters.

I'm working on it. It's going to be Huge! (But there will be a lot of repetition.)
