    Default Barenboim Wagner Rings

Would you like to see in the market any of the Wagner Rings conducted by Daniel Barenboim? Like a CD version of the Scala ring? A BBC or Universal release of the 2013 Proms concert? Still nostalgic of the Bayreuth 91/92?

I'd like to be more precise. There is still no release of the Proms 2013 Ring with the Staatskapelle Dresden, but mountmccabe listed that as his 4th favourite. What do you remember from it?

And what are your thoughts on the DVD Scala Ring (Staging, Cast, Orchestra)?

I saw the Berlin production which was a shared one with La Scala. I wasn't overly keen on the unnecessary dancers who kept cropping up at inopportune moments. Musically it was pretty good though so I just shut my eyes. The only Ring I would be keen to see on DVD and it's never going to happen, is Bayreuth from anytime in the fifties!

I have this one and like it a lot.
Best modern day cast and excellent sound.
The video is ok. But the end of Gotter is stupid. And why are the characters always falling down?

I hate the Scala with the ridiculous dancers.
When all else fails, listen to Thick as a Brick.

I like this one a lot too. I think it was the first complete Ring I bought, and I'm more than happy to go back to it. (Not sure about the video, though, or the Scala version for that matter.)

I too don't like the Scala dancers (I was fortunate enough to see one of the complete cycles there in 2013 and didn't like them then). The Bayreuth Barenboim Ring is better cast than both the Scala and Proms Rings and is available on CD (I have it), DVD (I have it too) and Blu Ray (I plan to upgrade).

However, despite the dancers, I'd rather watch the Scala Ring than listen to it on CD as the cast isn't quite as strong vocally, yet visually this is an interesting production. So, I am happy with the availability of these Rings and am happy to have them in the formats that have been released commercially.

The 2013 Proms is one of my top 10 Rings.
Hours of unrecorded, unpublished and unknown Beethoven works at The Unheard Beethoven

I have the 2013 Proms. His Bayreuth Ring is in great sound and wonderfully conducted, but the cast? Eh.

Can you believe that I've listened up to his 1991 Siegfried in Bayreuth and I agree with you 100%?
What a shame for the complete Barenboim box. How could Teldec fail so much for the Ring recordings. It's not like the Holländer or Lohengrin. Even the Meistersinger is nice. But this Ring cannot compete with many others in stereo in my opinion.

Another member interested in obtaining a copy of the 2013 Proms performances.
There was a link on here and it downloaded with lots of track divisions and you had to manually press play everytime to get it to move on. I lost it when a Mac crashed and died.

There was magic in the air and I will never forget the performances, so would really like a souvenir copy. They were broadcast on R3, so they must be out there somewhere? Anyone PM me?

You might be thinking about my download/capture of the Proms Ring. Here's the link to the Zip downloads; these are in 320kbps mp3 format:

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By...ldvanNibkJYN1k

I'm not sure I understand the problem you might have previously had during playback--I would think most music player software would figure out to move automatically to the next track, and hopefully do gapless playback of the mp3s as well?

Yeah, I got this the last time you posted the link Bill H. No problems whatsoever with it. Glad it's back. I lost the commentary for Rheingold somewhere in the ether. Now I can get it back. Cheers.

What are you using to play the mp3s? Windows Media Player? Itunes? Whatever application you use, you need to add the entire album to the program's playlist to allow each track to play one after the other. Otherwise it will simply play the one song that you select.
