    Question Lohengrin's Elsa...Grummer or Janowitz?

Was listening to the Kempe EMI and the Kubelik DGG recordings and loving both performances of Elsa.

Which of these singers captures Elsa best in your opinion.
Or just who do you prefer in this role?
When all else fails, listen to Thick as a Brick.

Grümmer performs better in the studio recordings in my opinion

    Grummer.

Studer is also a superb Elsa (and better than Janowitz in my view)

I really am taking a liking to Janowitz but have not hear her Elsa yet. I look forward to doing so in the future

From the two mentioned I prefer Janowitz, Steber stands above them al though.

This is a nice question Itullian. I love both of them but Grümmer was my imprint Elsa so I would opt for her.

I think Janowitz' Elsa is sensational.

Yes indeed, she is also sensational in every role. My favorite Steber recording is Don Giovanni live from the MET in 1957 with Böhm, Della Casa and Peters - a miracle.
