Default La Reine de Chypre - CD

    Re-recorded, with tenor Cyrille Dubois

Dubois was the understudy for Marc Laho; both men fell ill, and Sébastien Droy sang the role at the Paris concert. He'd only seen the score for the first time that morning, rehearsed all day, and had a vocal breakdown.

EDIT: It's a marvellous opera. I was lucky enough to attend the concert in Paris in June last year. Even without a tenor, it was one of my greatest experiences in an opera house: hearing a work that I'd read about, that had never been performed in anyone's lifetime, and which was beautiful, imaginative, and dramatic. I caught the métro from the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées to the Opéra, and, in the moonlight, paid my respects to the bust of Halévy.

Both Berlioz and Wagner - as well as Félix Clément, in his Dictionnaire - admired the work.
