Default Insert highly original greeting here

    Hi Folks,
Just signed up so thought I'd stop by the newbies thread and make the obligatory introduction.
I fell in love with classical music while attending university in my late teens/early twenties, rapidly to the exclusion of almost all other music. Its not something I'd ever really been exposed to at home or school, but started going to a few concerts and it spiralled from there.
As you may have guessed from the username, I've got a particular fondness for Beethoven fan but I'm still discovering and broadening my interests.
As well as listening to music I enjoy composing (to a very low standard ) when I have time, and in general am interested in recording, synthesis and reproduction of music.
I'll spare you all any further waffle and dive in. Looking forward to chatting with fellow members

Welcome to the forums! If you like Beethoven, you may also like his professed favorite, Luigi Cherubini. I have loved his Mass in F "di Chimay" and piano sonatas 1-6 performed by Andrea Bacchetti.

I did hear Yanny first, then concentrated to hear the lower-register Laurel. Now I can't hear Yanny no matter how hard I try.

Thanks for the irreverent welcome. I just wish I could unsee that album cover

@bharbeke - I've been enjoying some Cherubini this week, so thanks again. I foresee a couple of CD purchases in the near future

Welcome to Talk Classical, GrotesqueFugue! Very happy to read a profile like yours. I think I went from the same journey as you, meeting the music performed by Maria Callas and Herbert von Karajan, exploring their discography and investigating the recording market in orchestral and opera. What styles of music did you listen to before CM? How do you listen (stream/CD) to Classical Music?

If you're looking for more than a couple, Richardo Muti has a seven-box set called "The Great Masses." It was recommended to me by a TalkClassical member, and I wasn't disappointed.
