Exclamation It's kill a composer day again!

After another barrage of total silence make your mind up time has arrived again.

The balloon has reached a critical point and it is now time to decide who must valiantly sacrfice himself for the good of the others. Remember your vote should be based mostly on the threads posted by the composers marked, B.D. rd. 2. and not just on your personal like or dislike of the composer.

Please vote for the one composer you think makes the weakest argument for his remaining in the doomed dirigible! The one you would push over the side to save the others.

This poll will close on June 15th followed by a farewell ceremony for the unlucky composer.

And, yes the participants can vote.

    Be ruthless!

I don't think he deserves to die again. Oh well, his fate is in everyone else's hands. I personally think it's only because hardly anybody knows about him except for bassists; I mean, almost everybody knows Mahler and myself, and slightly fewer know Ginastera. Seriously, this isn't a popularity contest, and people are beginning to see it too much as such in my humble opinion.

I am new to this place - it's weird...

it's weird to think that Bottesini should be saved over Shostakovitch!!!!!!! What are ya'll on???

hummm...let's see...Shosty...symphonies, concertos, operas, quartets, movie scores, preludes and fugues, sonatas, songs, piano trio...amazing, beautiful, profound...

    botti...a very mediocre bass concerto...and..?..

    PLEASE!!! NOT SHOSTAKOVITCH!!!!

    over and out

@ Scott - That's not the whole point though. You are supposed to read the threads posted by the contestants and judge how well they defend their chosen composer.
As Bottesini I accept my fate and am already making prepartations for my bass to be packed in bubble wrap so that it might survive the fall even if I don't!

Truly a noble sentiment. There are too few great old double basses left in the world to have one be thrown off a balloon into the Alps and have it end in such a terrible way. Apparently the dear voters in this thread thought (incorrectly in my humble opinion) that your contributions could go no further. Regardless, that's the way voting must go sometimes: unfairly.

Don't worry, I'm planning a grand concet for my demise! Opera and concertos, Pyrotechnical solos and enchanting melodies all round and of course all played on the double bass!

As a public service, let me provide the links for the Balloon Debate Round Two entries:

    Shostakovich
    Bottesini
    Mahler
    Castelnuovo-Tedesco
    Ginastera

And one more point... post one says that the poll closes 15 June, but the poll itself says it closes 23 June. So... which is it?

Firstly CTP, thanks for the links! Sadly needed. I think I might have misjudged the time scale this time round. The forum seems to have changed almost entirely since the game began with new members coming and old ones either leaving or getting banned (hint). If there is a second Balloon Debate (not too likely) I will try to telescope the time scale a bit.

    ....and secondly....

Oops, I slipped up on that one! Thanks for pointing it out. As in keeping with the game the poll shall be 'called' on the morning of the 16th whether it's still open or not. I will ask the Moderators if it is possible to alter this mechanically otherwise you'll just have to trust me. Ithink I must have clicked the 'poll lasts 15 days' rather than 'closses on the 15tth' button. once again, sorry, eithe way it closses on the morning of the 16th (as is the custom of these things)

Well it's the morning of the 16th and Mr Bottesini awakes to a depressing duty. His final farewell will be posted shortly, but first CONGRATULATIONS to the other contestants. Mahler, Shostakovich, Castelnouvo Tedesco and Ginastera. They will be recieving instructions for the 3rd round by PM sometime today or tomorrow.

For now I must gather my belonging and write my will, again!
