    Default Hey there :tiphat:

    Hey guys

I just read a quite interesting discussion here so I joined (why not). I am 16 years old, going to highschool, and thinking of maybe studying music (if i have great talent).

    (In case you are interested)....

I play the piano for about 6.5 years now. Rn im playing the first piano concerto from Shostakovich and the Rachmaninov Prelude in B minor Op. 32. I have some accompaniment too, but thats not really something important.

    My favourite composers are..
    Shostakovich
    Rachmaninov
    Stravinsky
    Debussy
    Tchaikowsky
    Schönberg
Mahler and Skrjabin (im discovering them now)
(sometimes) Oscar Peterson, some Jazz never hurts...

    Yeah thats about it.

    Cheers

    Welcome kochmaxi!

You play Shostakovich and Rachmaninov? That's impressive! Best wishes for you to come to the best decision for yourself regarding music college.

Looking at your list of composers, I assume you're mostly into piano and orchestral music?

I am not familiar with Oscar Peterson, but I like piano jazz, e.g. Keith Jarrett. I think his sound world is very close to modern "classical" music.

And curious to know how you listen to music? Headphones or loudspeakers? Digital or analogue or streaming?

    Please enjoy your stay here!

Well first of all thanks Kiki.
Im actually thinking of playing Rachs 2nd piano concerto, conducting something by heart and composing a symphonic poem by the end of my „highschool“ (its a bit different here from the american ones) stay. We have to do a sort of diploma, we can choose whatever we want to do, so ill do music. Its gonna be very hard though.
You are right, im mostly into Orchestral and Piano music, but I also enjoy opera and lithurgical (Choral) music such as requiems and masses.

Well it depends on the situation. If I am in public I always use headphones. Sometimes when im hanging out I just let it sound, but not really loud as my friends dont really enjoy it, but at least the tolerate it.

When Im alone it depends too. We have a record player and if I have the piece I want to listen on a record, Ill listen it there. If not I just use my speaker and enjoy it that way. It also depends on the mood. I can listen something and dont really care about it, for example if Im gaming or working for school, but there are also moments, where one could describe me as maniac, conducting a piece by heart, holding a pencil.

    Cheers

    I admire your pencil act!

Hope you can convert a few of your friends as well!

Oh the record player is coming back to life, isn't it? It isn't just old timers who will listen to records these days.
