    Default User Levels/Rank

What are the different user levels in this forum?

I notice you achieve a rank of Senior Member after just 100 posts - Mirror Image achieved that in about 2 or 3 days! I'd like to see more levels and the bar for the upper levels raised quite a bit! I don't think I should even rank as Senior Member yet after just 350 posts - perhaps it should be a combination of posts, accumulated time spent within the forum, and date joined (if the forum engine allows such a thing). Perhaps those that achieve a certain level should even be allowed to ask the mods to set a bespoke level name for them. Most forums also show stars next to the names once they achieve certain levels. All very silly I know but it would make this place a bit more interesting (95% of us that contribute regularly are Senior Members).

    Interesting point!

I don't know how tough a 'fix' this is... but I've noticed that our sibling board (see "Magle" link towards the bottom of the page) has a much more variegated ranking system. Of course, we know of another board that lets users choose their own 'rank-subtext.' ('Humble dilettante' works for me!)

In a dream-world, a combo of 'title' and 'interactive' would be the best. For example, 1000 posts could gather the posting title "Lord/Lady" (staying away from obvious 'military' titles, which occasionally lead to objections), and then could be modified by the user, e.g.: "Lady of Early Music" (a well-known poster on another board has a title like this already) or "Lord in Service of the Master of Bayreuth" (a possible moniker for yours truly).

Maybe I'm overthinking this one. If only there was a way to make a TalkClassical Category "Top Readers!"

It would appear that a similar suggestion was discussed previously HERE, and the idea was not taken forward.

I agree with a change. I'm a moderator on a few other sites and the option of different levels and monikers to go with it are part of the fun. Senior members should be at 1500 or more and then trickle down from there. How about using orchestral instruments or music terms for each level of posts? Or how about a special notice under the name for those that donate to the forum?

The mods on here just don't listen to the members!

That sounds like a very good idea, Jim. Kudos for thinking of that.

Great archival work, Toccata. My 'surf-dom' only goes back to 2007, so I missed that one(!)

I predict that when we go to v-bulletin 3.8, a change will come on this issue.
If it's good enough for MIMF, it'll be good enough for us.

Sorry chaps but I am still against it for the same reasons that I quoted in the link that Toccata gave, It really is not needed and would not improve the forum.

It obviously would for quite a few members, even if it doesn't improve it for you where's the harm?

This is just something interesting I was think about, but it would kind of cool if all members took a "classical knowledge" test. Now bear in mind this would be quite in extensive test that covers all periods of classical music. Some questions would be general knowledge and some would be beyond that.
