Default Duplications with so many different Forums

I've been following the site for many years. Yet, I've only commented a few times. The reason? I find it confusing to follow all these different forums. For example, let's say I am mainly interested in recordings. There is a thread for favourite recordings of Beethoven's 6th for instance in the Recordings forum. But then there is another thread in the Orchestral forum, another one in the General Forum etc. This is very confusing and makes it difficult for me to track all different discussions. Which also begs the question, let's say I want to start a topic discussing Mahler's 2nd for example. How do I know which forum is ideal and will provide the most responses?

So I am just putting forward a suggestion for condensing the different forum topics somehow.

    Many thanks!

I don't share your confusion. There are a number of thread topics that might fit well in various forums. What you consider confusion, I think of as "choices".

Where would you post to ask a recommendation for a recording? I'd post in the Recordings and publications section. But I've noticed that recordings are discussed even more widely in the general forum.

Well, I don't think I've ever asked for recording recommendations. If I were to do so, I'd post in Classical Music Discussion where the post traffic is greatest - the biggest bang for the buck.

There's a trade off between aggregating all posts into a small number of forums and disaggregating the main forum into too many sub forums. Over time we have listened to our members and added more forums that allow people to focus on specific topics (Opera, Ballet, Orchestral Music, Chamber Music, etc.). In general many posts could be placed either in the Classical Music Discussion forum or in one of the more specific forums. Most people post in the Classical Music Discussion forum because more people look at that forum and threads will likely get more viewers there.

Personally, I almost never visit specific forums to look for threads or posts. When looking for new posts, I simply click on "New Posts" to find all unread posts anywhere on the main forum. If I'm looking for a specific topic, I use Google to search for that topic (e.g. Beethoven 6th recordings). Others presumably use the forum differently especially if they are most interested in a particular genre (e.g. Opera).

Geeez, another one who shares my opinion. The Opera on CD and DVD sub-section was one of the best incorporations many years ago and the formula should be applied to the other styles. Very few people end up using the Recorded Music and Publications area except for New Releases and those few times we debate about shopping and listening habits.

I just gave up that area and went to Orchestral directly. Not interested in the CMD area yet. Maybe never.

I tend to go to the same forums. For instance, I don't go to the political forum. That's the LAST thing I want to do. There are plenty of other places to discuss politics. Of course, other people have different opinions so it should be there I believe.

I just stick to the ones I like.
