    Default Deleting a group

There is a button visible seemingly giving the creator of a group the option to delete it. However, it doesn't work. It goes to this:

You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

    1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
    2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
If I can't delete it, why is the button there?

When I suggested (several times) that dead wood be cleaned out of Groups, I was told by Krummhorn that it was "policy" to retain everything forever. Good luck with resurrecting the idea; there are lots of candidates.

Have you tried it before, Euge? I'm wondering if groups are only removed (or archived out of sight) if their creators are no longer TC members.
'...a violator of his word, a libertine over head and ears in debt and disgrace, a despiser of domestic ties, the companion of gamblers and demireps, a man who has just closed half a century without a single claim on the gratitude of his country or the respect of posterity...' - Leigh Hunt on the Prince Regent (later George IV).

I've not tried it before. But I thought if the button is there (the creator can see it - not God, but me) then clicking it should achieve the desired result.

Now I've just read SM's post above yours. It's very baffling because 'the State of...' group was already deleted weeks ago; at dogen's request I assume. So the policy can't possibly be to keep everything.

If that is some kind of policy why is there a 'delete' button at all?

Anyway, people can delete their own posts by removing the text. I see no sense in retaining content no-one wants.

Group creators are not allowed to delete their own group. Any staff member is able to do so ... just PM one of us.

As to why the button is there is anyone's guess ... it's one of those unexplained vBulletin quirks.

I have been reading about the workings of a vBulletin board and the button can be hidden if you choose to remove the ability for users to delete content.

In any case I am kindly requesting here that my group 'Quatuor a cordes' be deleted because I feel it has failed and is just taking up space.

You are most likely right ... however, those commands are contained within the thousands of pages of PhP code for which I do not have, nor want, access.

Congratulations, Euge! But I conclude from Krummhorn's response that only the creators of groups can legitimately request and be granted the right to have seemingly lifeless groups euthanized and expunged. K, is this an accurate inference? What if a group's creator is him/herself extinct?
