The original amateur musicians from the Amon Duul commune. Surprisingly good, even first thing in the morning with caffeine the only drug ingested.

'In our way, Johnson strongly expressed his love of driving fast in a post-chaise. "If (said he) I had no duties, and no reference to futurity, I would spend my life in driving briskly in a post-chaise with a pretty woman;"' Boswell's Life of Johnson.

Next DB instalment but missing out Lodger which I've never got around to obtaining on CD. Scary Monsters is excellent - I only wish Bowie could have followed it up in a similarly angular fashion during the 1980s but for those of us who never succumbed to the dubious charms of 80s production values and the whole MTV thing we got Let's Dance and Tonight instead. The spectacularly successful Let's Dance and Tonight may have been manna for the Gordon Gekko generation and proved if nothing else that Bowie could be all things to all people but this overblown era for me represented a nadir in terms of both creativity and integrity.

    Low
    (1977):

    "Heroes" (1978):

Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) (1980):

'...a violator of his word, a libertine over head and ears in debt and disgrace, a despiser of domestic ties, the companion of gamblers and demireps, a man who has just closed half a century without a single claim on the gratitude of his country or the respect of posterity...' - Leigh Hunt on the Prince Regent (later George IV).

ὃν οἱ θεοὶ φιλοῦσιν ἀποθνῄσκει νέος [Those whom the gods love die young] - Menander

What would you say was their last good album? I've heard nothing since Choose Your Masques and I didn't particularly like that either.
