Short-term thinkers are rewarded with reelection, while those who dare to take seriously our responsibility to future generations commonly find themselves out of office.

    Santana - Amigos (1976).

Amigos was the last Santana studio album I can still get on with, but even then it pales in comparison to the ones that came before it. I persevered with Carlos and co. until the early 80s (Festival/Moonflower/Inner Secrets/Marathon/Oneness/Zebop!/Shango) but I was probably more in youthful denial than anything - in my opinion Santana's creativity began to flatline at an alarming rate from Inner Secrets onwards.

'...a violator of his word, a libertine over head and ears in debt and disgrace, a despiser of domestic ties, the companion of gamblers and demireps, a man who has just closed half a century without a single claim on the gratitude of his country or the respect of posterity...' - Leigh Hunt on the Prince Regent (later George IV).
