Vytas Brenner: La Ofrenda De Vytas (1973)

Vytas Brenner: Hermanos (1974)

Decades ago I took advantage of a cheap download option to get hold of scores of rather obscure prog rock albums. Although I burned them to CD's, many if these went unlistened as I had limited time (I was still working then). I've been going through this stack of CD's over the past few months (still a lot to do) to see which are keepers - not many are. These two albums by Venezuelan artist Vytas Brenner (his first two) are well worth hearing, especially the debut album. A mix of Latin jazz rock fusion, folk, electronic and symphonic prog. They are both low on run time though - I burned them together on one CDR with time to spare. Especially the second one is (too) short: many songs end far too soon.

Jazz today

I once traipsed down to London from Glasgow on an overnight bus in the late 60s to see if Dobell’s record shop had a copy of Volume 1 of the MJQ European Concert because I couldn’t find a copy up here. Managed to get my copy because sadly I am a completist when it comes to stuff like this. Btw, nice selection of albums Bkeske. 😎

Uriah Heep

...Very 'Eavy... Very 'Umble (1970):

Salisbury (1971):

No bands could escape from American record companies altering album covers and track lists. In this case it was the American distributor Mercury Records.

The title for Very 'Eavy was changed to a self-titled Uriah Heep, and the cover was changed to a scary-looking giant silver centipede monster. The last song on Side One , Lucy Blues, was replaced with an early version of Bird of Prey.

Salisbury's cover featuring the British Cheiftain Tank was replaced by a drawing of a man tearing out of his own skin.

The US release removed the lead track, a re-recorded version of Bird of Prey, and replaced it with the first track from Side Two, High Priestess. They replaced it with a Ken Hensley song, Simon the Bullet Freak, which was the B-side of the Lady In Black single.
