If you really feel that way, why bother having a thread at all, simply announce your opinion. I used to mix on these back in the 80's and remember them quite fondly, though that was a long time ago!

The JBL‘s tweeters when new were not crap. It’s a good company and I’ve owned their speakers for years. It does not make sense that both tweeters sound bad unless they’re blown or there’s something else going on with them, or even a problem with the amp. People are simply trying to point this out that your assessment may not be accurate. I would have tried them on a different amplifier before drawing any conclusions to assess whether they were functional of themselves. In trying to solve the problem, I doubt if anyone is just going to automatically agree with you. You’ve also claimed that mp3 files you’ve been hearing or crap and most listeners have not had this problem. I’ve heard 128 files through audiophile headphones and they might not have the greatest depth in the world but I’ve never considered them crap or heard unlistenable distortion or artifacts. So this is an opportunity to find out what the real problem is because something just doesn’t add up.

He says he was given the speakers free by a disco. They're probably blown. Odds are, more than one speaker is blown. They may all be.

It also could be that he googled up that my mains have JBL piezo electric super tweeters. He might just be making all of this up to pee on me. I really don't care. If it's true, he should take his speakers to a tech to be checked out. if he randomly swaps other tweeters in, he is going to get random sound.

Not much point to even discussing this blather.
