    Default Bachianas brasileiras

I decided to put this poll here because of the vast range of instrument combinations involved.

The 50th anniversary of the death of Heitor Villa-Lobos will probably pass largely un-noticed by many, thanks to a certain 4 composers whose anniversaries are also being commemorated this year.

Which one of his Bachianas brasileiras is your favourite?

I voted the no. 4, but I'm not a big fan of the Bachianas. They fall considerably short of his other thematic cycle, the Choros.

I particularly like the Bachiana no. 5 because of the aria, the soprano singing that poem is so passionate, the lyrics are about a twilight melancholy, a moment of sweet melancholy where all the felling about missing is expressed. In Portuguese it sounds very poetic.

I especially like the third moment of Bachiana no. 2 . Heitor Villa-Lobos was a genius in musically portraying a steam train cutting the interior of Brazil, a work replete references about the people of the countryside.

    After repeated listenings of the complete Bachianas, my sentence (nowadays) is: 3, 4, 2, 5, 1, 9, 7, 6 e 8.
