Because I'm looking through the list of nominations right now, and there are some pieces that, I think, should be reconsidered (there might be others in the list):

Crumb's Black Angels, though it's a case study in extended techniques, quotes the 2nd mvmt of Schubert's SQ 14 in the "Pavana Lachrymae" section. And in the section "Sarabanda de la Muerte Oscura" is definitely in the key of D minor.

The final mvmt of Feldman's Rothko Chapel is in G major

The final mvmt of Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time is in E major, and in the other seven movements, Messiaen uses his modes of limited transpositions, which, like the diatonic scales, are scales that emphasize certain pitches and interval patterns over others.

The Ligeti etudes "Desordre", "Entrelacs", and "En suspens" have one hand playing a pentatonic scale on the black keys and the other hand playing the white keys (which yields a diatonic scale).
I tend to think of pre1950 Messiaen as tonal, but its a fair question with symmetrical scales whether there is a single pitch center. I have seen tonal analysis of a number of second Viennese works so it all gets rather ambiguous. Anyway, its a great list of pieces that was put together. I am too lazy/ busy to organize it into actual voting, if someone else does, go right ahead. Anyway the nominations is the interesting part

Would have like to see someone nominate something by Stefan Wolpe, though. String Quartet, or piece in two parts for six players perhaps

Fair question. And I think it makes sense to be quite strict in this game as it could easily generate a huge list of modern and later works. I lost the ability to distinguish between the "somewhat tonal" and atonal some time back (sometimes I recognise atonalism but not always). I am happy to drop the Messiaen quartet in this competition for its evident tonal parts (which I actually had recognised) and replace it with

Skalkottas - the 2nd Piano Concerto.

Meanwhile, for today's suggestions I will add

    Maderna - Oboe Concertos (1, 2 and 3).

It may be good to highlight this - for those still nominating, it is doubtful that this will actually be a game.

I was wondering why you were doing such a poor job as game manager. Little did I know that you had no intention of running a game. For future reference, I'll keep in mind that you aren't reliable.
