    Default Mysterious Likes setback.

It is a very mysterious problem I faced for the first time two or three weeks ago:

I was on the verge of 6000 likes. Instead of reaching this number I went back to 5887. (Minus 100). A couple of days after, I was again on the verge of 6000. This time I had a setback of 1000 seeing a number of 4995. Does anyone know something about this problem? We are using the same forum platform also in Germany (many problems) but something like this I have never seen before.

    Thanks,

    Dimace

I was unable to get your Likes option to work on this page. It seems to be jammed for some reason because it wouldn’t open to reveal your count, but I could open the Likes option for others. I have no idea why this should be so, but I can understand your puzzlement and there does seem to be a problem for some people with the Likes function.

Thanks a lot my friend. Does this mean I must open a new account or in the future the problem could be solved?

Likes is an add-on to the system and has always been tricky to get working properly. However, it looks like there is some sort of problem with the database tables relating to your account. I've referred it to higher authority.

I very much like the Likes system and glad it's available. It's positive and one can quickly use it in lieu of replying to someone's post. I would miss it if it weren't available, though I think there are times when it's overused when one has simply posted an album cover or an album one is listening to, and then the count goes way up. But much better to have it than not.

I have disabled the likes option on the current page(s) from the settings. (If something doesn't work turn it off to avoid further problems)Now is active again. Thanks again my friend (s)

Just gave you a like--I'll try to chip away at that missing thousand in the days to come just in case the admins can't sort the issue out.

    Dimace:

I am looking into this issue and will try to come up with a resolution. Can't find anything in the admin settings that would limit the number of likes or reset any of those numbers.

One thought does come to mind and that relates to "cookies" that this site must be able to load onto whatever medium is being used to access the site. If your "cache" (cookie jar) is full, then the updated cookies can't be uploaded ... old cookies get stale and need to be purged from your browser on a regular basis.

This site does remove any/all cookies it uploads if the user logs off properly. Clicking on the red X to leave the site does not completely log off the member, and therefore does not remove the cookies. When logging on again, the old cookie is still resident and can display erroneous database table information.

I currently show your account with a total likes count of 8,715 (total of given and received).

I will be looking into this matter, researching the issue with other vBulletin admins, and attempt to come up with a resolve. The Likes system is an add-on application and I'm not sure I have the proper permissions to change the "add-on" settings.

If that turns out to be the case I will have to forward the matter over to the site owner.

Update: I am unable to rectify the problem and kicking it up the ladder to the site owner for resolution.

That said, there seem to be known problems/issues with the "likes" function ... the temporary band-aid was switched to "on" several years ago.

This "bug" has now been added to the fix-it list ... I do now know if/when it will be repaired.

Excellent work! I'm happy because we found a new machine problem and by fixing it we shall make the forum better.

I've just noticed that I have received substantially more likes than I have given. I am like deadbeat. I've resolved to give more likes.
