    Arne, Purcell and other British composers of that time period wrote overtures to theatrical compositions that were not always, strictly speaking, operas. But since this thread is about opera overtures, here's an authentic one by Thomas Arne

    Well, in a prior post I had an obscure Irish composer Vincent Wallace. Here's another Romantic Irishman: William Balfe and his opera overture for "The Siege of Rochelle"
