A rather hefty overture for an exotic opera

Well, here's the first Vivaldi opera overture to be posted. He claimed he wrote over 90 operas. 50 are known to exist however.

Romantic German composer Albert Lortzing wrote this overture to an opera about an opera rehearsal.

The music of Pierre-Alexandre Monsigny is not well known and does not set the music world on fire but he is considered important historically. Here's what Wikipedia says: He is considered alongside André Grétry and François-André Danican Philidor to have been the founder of a new musical genre, the opéra comique. Paul Dukas is quoted as saying, "Of all the composers of our country, he may be the first who had the gift of true, human emotion, of communicative expression and of fair feeling" So here is an opera overture by Monsigny. I think at least you'll find it charming

Engelbert Humperdink's most well known work is his opera "Hansel and Gretel". And its overture is often played. Love the horns at the start.

Polish Romantic composer Stanislaw Moniuszko wrote plenty of operas. Here's the overture to "Halka". It has a wonderfully rousing ending.
