Pablo Heras-Casado has been terrific to see live with the SFS, twice, but his recordings seem to be Harnoncourt-ish and haven't really grabbed my interest.

David Robertson is another conductor who shouldn't be missed, but again, he doesn't enjoy the discography of a mythical maestro.

So a lot of elements have to be in place to reach that mythical plateau, but with the ground shifting all the time in the industry, the future isn't likely to imitate the past but move with the times. No doubt some listeners will miss it if they're demanding something else.
