Yikes – I've now gone from "lol" to "I wonder what these are going for on eBay"

I have very modest setup but it has been built over many years where the parts just have been come together by replacing the ones that did not fit. Once in a while I get something new to try - sometimes it will replace the parts I already have but less often so.
My experience is that you can not choose just the speakers - it should go with the amp. Maybe active speakers have that part covered(I am not talking about typical computer speakers). Ideally these should be designed to work together perfectly. But finally it should work in your room and how you place your speakers.
The same goes with headphones and even more so - some need much more power to drive to sound good that the others.
And if you get into DACs it is the science by its own right. You may think that cheap DAC is OK but I am sure you change your mind soon. These really do sound very different. If you want DAC to better your computer sound I would look for good sound card. Few years old models can go for very cheap - just make sure your op-system supports the drivers.
You may want to start asking in other audio forums like hifiengine.com, vinylengine.com, lencoheaven.net(lots of classical music fans there)
