    Default Any experts on Zoom?

My music analysis class has just switched to Zoom. We had our first on-line session yesterday and we will probably be spending the next several weeks working through Schubert's B Flat Trio.

It was awkward at best. I'll skip the details unless someone cares. Bottom line, is there any way for the teacher to share a digital recording (CD, stream, USB stick, YouTube, something else) directly with the class with better quality sound than simply playing it and having it picked up by the mic on his computer. Or is the only choice having the teacher use a better mic and speakers

Have you considered something like Slack or Basecamp? You can share files in private and have a discussion in there as well.

I've been using Zoom a lot for meetings for the past few days and I'm surprised that it works at all, with so many people using it at the same time. It's nice to have a Slack channel going as a backup.

I'm a student. I don't get to pick the software.

Well, in that case I guess the Zoom screen sharing option would probably work. The teacher shares his screen while playing the music (with "share computer sound" selected) and the music is shared directly without having to go through his speakers and computer mic.

I contacted the tech people at the school, and we will be using "Share Computer Sound" starting next week. They thanked me, but they should really be thanking you.

Nice to hear — let's hope it works out!

It'll be interesting to see how much this technology will improve in the coming months and years now that the race is on.

Can the teacher notify the class in advance of the music selections for each class? Perhaps make a playlist on a streaming service such as Amazon? Students can pay month to month for the streaming service

I don't think that is necessary. Zoom's share screen and share sound options let us see and hear what's displayed and playing on the teacher's computer. On Thursday we were looking at the teacher's iTunes app while he played excerpts of Schubert's B Flat Trio. He would then turn off those features so we could see and speak with one another. As we will spende a number of weeks on that piece, there's no need to alert class of what we'll be listening to.

Note - it might have been better to play a YouTube video of a live performance.
