    Hi there
I'm new and haven't figured out how to delete a duplicate post. Is it possible for me to do? If so, how, and if not - how should I handle? I don't want to mess up threads....

    Thanks

Users are allowed to edit their posts but not delete. Deletion of a post is a moderator function only.

I have found the post and have deleted it. In the future you can PM the forum staff and we will handle that for you.

You are given a limited time to edit a post, so if you see it is a duplicate post or otherwise decide you didn't want to make the post, just edit the post, and save it with a line of dots (because I think you need at least 15 characters to save a post or edit to a post. So some do this:

    .............................

    Others might do this,

    Wrong thread. Post deleted.

    There are other possibilities.

That works, too ... when the staff sees these on our random checks of threads we will usually delete them.

The forum could allow members to delete their own posts but that would make too much sense for this quirky place. Kinda like that dumb 15 characters rule.

I am on another forum that uses the same software as this one and they give a lot more time to edit posts that we get here.

Hmm and what happens when your post has been quoted, perhaps multiple times?

The 15 character rule is there to encourage serious debate and avoid posts like "+1" or "me too" or "right on" it also helps (not a lot) to make life difficult for spammers who try to build a serious profile before causing trouble.

The shortness of the editing time is a result of previous disputes between members where people were altering posts after insulting people to wrong foot their opponents.

I don't think that I have seen much span that would have a problem with a 15 character rule. What it does prevent entirely is a pithy answer when that is all that is needed.

There is a way around it, of course - hide any unwanted text behind the white option in Text Colour.

I can't figure out your dodge unless you are able to bring your text down to below the threshold when re-editing.

Just use the space bar for as many 'characters' as you need before the last full stop.

Ha! Trust me to overthink it as usual.
