Every room has a resonant frequency (sometimes more than one). A simple notch filter in the right place will keep the walls from rattling. EQ is your friend.

    My current stereo system:

    Ayre AX-5 Twenty integrated amplifier
    Ayre CX-7eMP CD player
    Vandersteen Quatro loudspeakers
    Transparent power conditioner
Transparent interconnect cables and speaker cables
    Harmonic Resolution Systems audio stand

I only play CDs, but I've been thinking about connecting the system to a computer.

Currently using an iMac connected to a hard drive with full library... connected to an inexpensive but outstanding Nobsound NS-02E Vacuum Tube Headphone Amplifier... connected to a set of pricey, lightweight, Grado GS-1000 headphones capable of great detail and resolution at moderate sound levels, connected to my ears, connected to my head... I'm online quite often and this is an ideal set-up that’s convenient for YT concert videos as well... After years of various receivers and headphone amps, I would never go back to an all-solid-state system ever. Digital files now sound warm and wonderful with less harshness, and the combination of the above represents the best of both worlds without spending a fortune on an overpriced S-S amp that has a smaller soundstage and slightly hardens the overall sound. I have four other affordably priced but excellent hybrid/tube headphone amps that I use for variety and for rolling tubes... Tubes are alive but there's a learning curve to get the most out of them.

I still say play it loud and proud- no heaphones for me
My 2nd system, wife still plays celine dion on the main one. AR93's speakers, Nad2040 &3155 bridge power amps 150w/channel with NAD1020B preamp, Mantra Manticore turntable with Mission tone are and Denon DL103 MC Cart and Nak 202RX tape deck- I have banned digital from this listening room.........
Oh if I want to push it to 11 (spinal Tap) I have a PA amp sitting alongside the NAD's hooked up to some small bins just to give Varese's sirens that extra edge over Celine
PS EQ takes care of itself and sometimes ever runs away

I thought he might have an alt right channel too.

By the way, but when a speaker is shoved in a corner, or tightly wedged in by furniture, or flat against a wall, the sound quality is severely compromised. Box speakers should be several feet from any wall and equidistant from side walls. I understand if the wife won't allow it, but I thought I'd mention it.

Amps, speakers...it's all BS unless you have a good source of digital playback.

Thankfully the cost of a good source of digital playback is as low as $40 nowadays, and people carry phones around in their pocket with sound quality that equals high end players.

A month ago I had to get a new phone. I use an iPhone because it's compatible with my iPad. My previous phone, an iPhone 5 had a headphone jack. I would use the auxiliary input to connect my iPhone 5 to my old stereo when listening to Spotify. My new iPhone 7 doesn't have a headphone jack. Fortunately I could buy for $10 a lightning connection to mini plug in order to connect my iPhone 7 to my stereo when playing Spotify.

I have just bought a Dragonfly USB DAC + pre amp + headphone amp. The black dragonfly. I had to get a lightning to USB 3 camera adapter. This is now how I listen to Spotify.

There is a difference. The Dragonfly does improve the sound. It's not a huge difference, but noticeable. What's especially more clear is the stereo effect, channel separation. I'm listening to early Genesis right now. The dense texture has become less muddy and more clear with the Dragonfly. A good purchase.

The bonus is that the adapter for the iPhone also lets me connect my point and shoot camera to the iPad. I can now directly import photos from my point and shoot camera to my iPad.

The difference between the dongle and your DAC isn't the DAC, it's the amping. If you used the dongle with a simple headphone amp, the sound would probably be equal. Your headphones probably have an impedance mismatch with the dongle.
