Default Vinyl played from the inside out?

    Hi all,

I've seen a You Tube video of a 2016 (if memory serves) recording of Bolero on vinyl, which plays from the inside out. This is so that the inner groove distortion is minimised at the beginning of the work, rather than at the end, when the music is at its loudest.

I've heard a few versions of the 1812 Overture on vinyl which become quite distorted during the very loud finale. Wouldn't this be another candidate for the 'inside out' treatment?

    Any thoughts?

    Many thanks, Mark.

Well, maybe this is the video you're referring to, though it's only 2018, but it's very good nonetheless:

And I see it does mention Ravel's Bolero.

My curmudgeonly response is, 'since no-one is going to be making vinyl records any more in serious quantities, the video is merely curious and interesting. In a digital world, we don't need to concern ourselves with such matters... and hurrah for that!'

The less-curmudgeonly response is it's a very interesting way of working around an inherent technical limitation of disks and rotational velocity issues.

12" long tonearm, very low tracking error, no audible inner grove distortion. Also, don't have to fuss with anti-skate.

    Problem solved.

Or a 6" long linear tonearm. Lots of better solutions than a custom LP.
