I voted on the basis of what I would choose to hear in a live performance -- a difficult choice. But on that basis I chose Mahler's 3rd (as I have not heard a live performance of this) along with the Sibelius 5 which I love.
I chose Mahler's 3rd because it's my favorite of the Mahler symphonies, and I have no problem with Sibelius' 5th as the pairing, because I like all of Sibelius' symphonies.
Several of these pairings are appealing to me (Mahler 2/Sibelius 2 and Mahler 3/Sibelius 5 in particular), but the most intriguing to me is Mahler 6/Sibelius 4. That would be a very dark program, so maybe not for everyone.
Sibelius Symphony No. 2, Violin Concerto and Symphony No. 5, and skip Mahler completely.
