Default April Madness - Round 1, Bracket A

Welcome to round 1 of the April Madness tournament! We've submitted our lists of preferred composers and come up with a ranked list of 64 composers for the tournament, and our preferred composers have been assigned to four 16 seed brackets. I think everyone probably understands how this works, but in case you don't, we will now start the process of eliminating composers in head to head match ups. At the end of the round 32 composers will have been eliminated and 32 will advance to the next round.

Here are the rules of play:

    1. All participants MUST vote in each pairwise match up when they place their votes. There are 2 options when you place a vote:
    a. Add 2 points to your preferred composer in each match up
    b. If you have no preference for any given match up, you must add 1 point to each composer

The sum of points for both composers in each pair of composers should be the same for all pairs in the bracket at all times. If that is not the case then something has gone wrong somewhere.

    2. Each bracket will last approximately 48 hours once the initial board is posted by me. Each participant may place their votes 1 time per their day with the exception that no one may vote more than 2 times in any bracket. This is so that no one has an advantage based on geography that may allow them to vote a 3rd time before the 48 hour period is over.

    3. I will vote as normal on the 1st day of each bracket, but on the 2nd day I will refrain from voting until the very end of the 48 hour period to break any ties (before anyone complains that I am giving myself an unfair advantage by doing this, please read my comment at the bottom of this thread; I believe that I am actually placing myself at a disadvantage relative to everyone else by taking on this role).

My plan is to post a new bracket in a new thread every 24 hours, so after the 1st day, on any given day there should be 2 active brackets. If you've only voted in one bracket in a day, please be on the lookout for the other active thread so that you don't miss out on the opportunity to support your favored composers. The first round will be complete on Friday morning 4/9 my time after all 4 brackets have been decided.

Regarding my tie breaking rule above: If you think about it, my role here isn't actually to break ties at the end of the round. In the case that there are any ties that need to be broken I will just be voting for my preferred choice as anyone else would. More accurately, my role is to NOT place any votes that would create a new tie at the end of the round. Which means there will likely be situations where I won't be able to support my preferred choice in some match ups.

    tl,dr: Here are the rules:
    1. Add 2 points to your favorite composer in each match up on the board. If you have no preference add 1 point to both (do NOT refrain from voting in any match up just because you don't like either composer or don't have a preference).

    2. Each bracket will last 48 hours after the initial board is posted. Every participant may vote 1 time per their day, up to a maximum of 2 times in any bracket.

    3. I will hold off on voting on the 2nd day until the very end to break any ties/prevent any new ties.

The board for Bracket A will be posted shortly!
