Default Copyright on Ravel’s ‘L’enfant et les Sortilèges’

Hallo, I’m an amateur poet and artist. I’m interested in animating images to music. I would like to know if there is copyright on Ravel’s ‘L’enfant et les Sortilèges’. I am unlikely to share this online except unprofessionally. I have worked with primary school children and our short films (ours was called ‘A Year in the Life of a Tree’) were screened at a private viewing, in a local cinema in South East London. Thank you.

Welcome to Talk Classical, poesie. I have moved your post to this newly created thread so it can be discussed without disrupting the other one.

Your question cannot be answered without more details.

    1. Are you looking for showing your work in the UK (like the previous one)? Many countries have different copyright laws.
    2. Are you thinking of copyright on the sheet music, the text, or the sheet music and the text?
    3. Are you looking to use an existing recording?

The score/vocal score for Ravel's opera L'Enfant et les Sortileges was published in 1925, and Ravel died in 1937. So the opera should have been in the public domain (which is the life of the composer + 70 years), but because the librettist, Colette died in 1954, the opera is still copyright protected, and won't be in the public domain until 2024 in the UK.
