    Default Happy to be here

    Hello everyone!

My name is Liam and I am a painter who lives just outside of Washington DC.

I have no particular musical ability, I'm really just a passionate lay enthusiast.

I first started listening to classical music regularly in college, when I got involved in the campus radio station. I was interested in radio but mainly listened to sort of arty punk and classic rock at the time. The station was primarily classical, though, and I discovered through the process of programming and listening to my broadcast that I love this music.

After graduation, I moved away and no longer had several hours committed every week to listening to and thinking about classical music. For many years I didn't listen to much at all.

Recently, I rediscovered my old eclectic high school record collection and became really enchanted by one record in particular: a Mace disc of chamber works by Bartok and Hindemith. I sold my old rock albums and have been steadily buying 20th century music on LP. I like other periods and formats, but I feel a collection thrives under limitations.

I found this forum when I was building a Discogs Wantlist and needed recommendations for Stravinsky recordings or something. The community here made me decide to make an account -- I can't think of any forum I've ever joined before this one.

Looking forward to entering the discourse!

Welcome to Talk Classical Liam! Enjoy the forum - it's mostly harmless.

We are a mixed bunch, we have professional musicians as well as "passionate lay enthusiasts" (like you and I). But we all love music.

If you have any questions about the site, feel free to contact me or anyone else of the moderators team.

Your interests are primarily 20th Century. Do you also go back to the late 19th, such as Mahler or Bruckner? What about Early Music (Baroque and earlier)?
