Default Bartok, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, or Stravinsky?

Let's make stupid polls! I tried to make this one real tough.

Bela was the odd one out, so I picked him...

Bartok, actually my all-time favorite composer. Stravinsky would have been my second choice though.

I was considering putting Janacek in, who would look really out of place. Oh and Varese, but then that wouldn't really be a difficult choice, would it?

Alas, you two have forced me to vote. Sergei Sergeyevich, you are the greatest of them all...

[Stravinsky's minions had better get working. Béla Viktor János has already managed to procure two votes. ]

Stravinsky is good with his modernistic stuff, but neo-classical pieces are one huge fail, Bartók is nice, but I have to explore him a litte bit more.

I think I'll vote for Prokofiev, in my eyes he exceeds Shostakovich with his piano music.

Stravinsky because he wrote in many styles but it is still all totally his personality. I think the cellular writing in neo-classicism was brilliantly original - and a wonderful counter-force to serialism. I'd rather Stravinsky to Schoenberg, if we compare too highly influential figures.

Bartok wrote some amazing music and Prokofiev is one of my favourite composers but Stravinsky seems to cross all divides and boundaries.

As for Shostakovich, I like a lot of his music but he does tend to favour one of two moods: sarcasm or despair. Notice how much of his music falls into either category. :P

Stravinsky wrote Petrushka wow and Rite wow and Symphonies of Wind Instruments wow and Apollo wow and The Movements for Piano and Orchestra wow. So you see, highly adaptable too.

Having said all this - polls are a giant pain.

Definitely Prokofiev for me, love his piano concertos in particular.

Isn't it obvious: my Béla has no peer in this bunch .

    No additional comments necessary!

I instinctively had to vote for Bartok, although the topic of the poll was not at all clear.

Well, try to focus more on his music and less on that shy-yet-sassy swimsuit picture of him in that other thread?

I thought it was pretty obvious... which of the above should be burned at the stake?
