  1. Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 4; Triple Concerto

On this Beethoven anniversary year, we are planning monthly shares dedicated to Ludwig among our ongoing series throughout the year.

This week, to launch this #Beethoven2020 series, we are sharing a Cover2Cover post of yet another RPO-produced and distributed disc from the late 1990's, this time part of a Beethoven piano concerto cycle with pianist Michael Roll and Howard Shelley as conductor.

According to Wikipedia, English classical pianist Michael Roll. Born in the UK

Eva Reiter Noch sind wir ein Wort ...

There are six pieces on this release of works composed between 2009 and 2017 by recorder player, early music specialist and composer Eva Reiter; but despite her extensive early music experience, don't mistake her compositions for neo-baroque pastiches (at least not all the time)! In reality, beginning with Noch sind wir ein Wort ... for contrabass recorder, double bass, choir and electronics, we are thrust into an utterly unashamedly original

    Marco Momi Almost Nowhere

There are three pieces on this, and only the third with which I am already familiar. Although this is something I would certainly love a lot, unfortunately some of the electronic diffusion might sound better on speakers rather than headphones

  4. Waltzes for Orchestra

Our final montage for 2019, just in time for the New Year, features the Waltz, including some waltz collections and was built around the contents of an old Vanguard recording called "The Great Waltz Composers" featuring the Vienna State Opera Orchestra under Anton Paulik.

I added three "waltz collections" to the montage: Richard Rodgers' waltzes from his many Broadway musicals (arranged by Leroy Anderson for the Boston Pops), the set of waltzes composed by Richard

  5. Karajan Highlights

For our final Vinyl’s Revenge of 2019, I dug deep into my record collection to share a compilation of classical hits conducted by Hebert von Karajan

According to discogs, my go-to source for recorded material (especially vinyl), Karajan has nearly 2000 titles to his credit, and nearly 400 of those fall under “compilations”. As I glanced through the titles, we can find Karajan compilation albums on many of the well-known labels, and quite a few on DG with the Berlin Philharmonic.
