    Russian Choir School
    Valery Polyansky
    State Chamber Choir

All (or nearly all) of the sacred acapella music that I've listened to has been in the Western church tradition, and while this is clearly different, it's hard to put my finger on exactly /how/ it is different. One thing is the low bass line (Slavic Bass?) which I really like. I think my favorites are the Blessed the Lord, O my soul (Rachmaninov) and the Appease My Ills (G. Izvekov).

    J.S. Bach
    Brandenburg Concerto #3
    The English Concert
    Trevor Pinnock, conductor
    1979

    Baal Shem
    Ernest Bloch
    Joshua Bell, violin

    Franz Schubert
    Nigel Kennedy, violin
    English Chamber Orchestra
    Jeffery Tate, conductor

  5. 2021 Listening Project - Jan 4

    William Walton
    Violin Concerto
    Joshua Bell, violin
    Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
    David Zinman, conductor

This is a little out there for my tastes (maybe that means that my tastes are pretty conservative). There are impressive parts, certainly, but a little too lacking in melody for me.

    J.S. Bach
    Brandenburg Concerto #6
    The English Concert
    Trevor Pinnock, conductor
    1979

I love this one, I think it
