I'm starting writing again after handing in all my university coursework and being on holiday for a week. The next step is to get a 2.1 or above so I can do a Masters in composition.

I'm going to talk a bit about the problems I've had as a composer and how I'm going to use this time to overcome them.

For starters, conventional notation has been a big barrier between my musical ideas and getting scores written. I don't think this is the fault of conventional

Oh joy of joys! The Berio transcription is complete, as is the film score! I printed off the 4 pieces that make up my composition portfolio and now need to write a 1500 word aesthetic statement. I've set myself a three day time span to get all my work for university done and dusted. That will mean three days of nothing but work. 1 - His music is of a consistently high standard. (He destroyed works he deemed sub-par.)

2 - He completes the "3 Bs". (Plus he is a white German male which helps!)

I completed the string parts of my Berio transcription. I just need to fill out the wind parts and then that's another module finished. The piece, 'Leaf' is made almost entirely from close staccato chords. The interest comes from the elusive third pedal which allows selected pitches to sustain.

Neeme Jarvi's rendition of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Suites 1, 2 & 3 came through the post from ebay today. Right off the bat,
