  1. Glazunov's Writings, Blog 5: A new production of Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky (update)

This is an updated translation of this text, meant to be published long ago but didn't get around to editing. Should definitely be interesting for Mussorgsky fans, especially those who are Godunov fans!

Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, presented at the consideration of the Directorate of the Imperial Theaters in 1870, was initially rejected. The motives served allegedly "abundance of choirs, ensembles, solo absence numbers. " The opera was staged only January

  2. Glazunov's Writings, Blog 6: Mozart in All of Us

A big thanks to a German-speaking friend who volunteered to translate this for me. This speech was likely made originally in German for a symposium because it dates 1931, after Glazunov left the USSR for good. Mozart fans would especially be interested in this, enjoy!

    Mozart in all of us

In the second half of the 18th century, a miracle happened on this planet: in the heavens of art a new star emerged, whose glistening overshadowed all other earthly lights,

    Chapter 16

As promised, Sasha went to the Thursday rehearsal later in the afternoon and took Ana Pavlovna out. She didn’t act much different from how she was at the gathering, except that she felt no pressure to fight for his attention anymore. Sasha decided to take her somewhere intimate and simple, not overly ostentatious and luxurious. Perhaps then he could reveal a different side to her. In this little tavern at twilight, he had an interesting conversation with her.

  5. Glazunov's Writings, Blog 4: ON THE DANGERS OF MUSIC

A humorous (but maybe also serious?) article Glazunov submitted to a magazine after he was asked to make an opinion about Richard Strauss... yep, we can see where this is going...

    On the Dangers of Music

I can cite a few examples of the negative impact of music, but I can not help, first of all, not expressing perplexity for the following reason.
How can the public understand the work of Strauss's Elektra? We, the professionals do not understand the
