  1. Once Upon the Internet – Sergey Schepkin Plays Debussy

    En français

This month, we will have two Once Upon the Internet posts, covering the two books of preludes for piano by Claude Debussy.

    The works

Claude Debussy's Préludes are divided into two separate livres (or books) of twelve preludes each. Unlike previous collections of preludes, such as those of J.S. Bach and Chopin, Debussy's do not follow a strict pattern of key signatures.

Each book was written in a matter of months, at an unusually

  2. Theatre of the Mind

    En français

The music selections I chose to explore today are, in a sense, speculative works – that is to say, works written (one could think) in anticipation of a stage work. All of the pieces I chose are intended either to depict stage music, or suggest stage music, whilst not necessarily designed to accompany any specific stage work – other, maybe, than the type of stage performance, be it a theatrical play, a ballet or an opera.

  3. La Chronique du disque (September 2012)

    En français

The rules will be kept simple: here’s what I found, here’s where I found it, here’s a couple of sentences about it and (possibly) some opinions.

Not unlike Olympic Figure Skating, I will provide two sets of marks (letters A to D) on sound quality (SQ) and on overall impression (OI). These grades are entirely subjective, but here are some guidelines:

  4. Once Upon the Internet – Mozart Concertos on MP3.COM

    Mozart ...and Much More!

This month’s Once Upon the Internet is a look at a trio of concertos by Mozart. Let’s begin with the last two…

Toronto Symphony Principal chairs Frederick Rizner and Joaquin Valdepenas collaborated with the English Chjamber Orchestra on a Summit Records album of three Mozart concertos. I can’t remember iof MP3.Com provided the Valdepenas Clarinet concerto, but it did provide the pair of horn concertos I am proposing today.

    Mozart ...and Much More!

September is Mozart and Much More month on PTB and on my Friday Blog and Podcast. All month, my music selections will be either by or inspired by Mozart, and will include some complimentary works to round-off the selections if need-be.

To get things going here on PTB, my first of three posts is dedicated to a pair of works that were commissioned from Mozart by a prominent Salzburg fannily, the Haffners.
