Composers of the 'New Complexity' movement have produced the most esoteric music I've ever heard. They are esoteric to listeners because there is simply too much information to completely grasp the parameters at play. They are also esoteric to performers as they are extremely difficult compositions to play.

I want to bring your attention to a piece I've recently listened to called 'Black Angels' by George Crumb.

It's a fantastic piece in my opinion. It's written for an electric string quartet with added percussion instruments. Crumb takes no half measures in using these added instruments. I've recently been practicing Scott Joplin and Billy Mayerl on the piano. I really want to learn Gershwin too if anyone can recommend me a good album.

It is my theory that one can walk into any establishment and, with a repertoire of Joplin, Mayerl and Gershwin, entertain any class of customers. This is what I want to be able to do.

I've learnt The Entertainer, Maple Leaf Rag and The Cascades by Joplin. This music would do down well in a lower-end bar / tavern. However,
