Well, if they will use pop-singers they can use a multi-frets Sky guitar by Uli Jon Roth (see Wikipedia) or something like that. Though, I don't think that pop singers will be able to sing the Ring.
I have another idea: a new opera, named "Elektra, the Gothic Transvestite" with Marylin Manson as Elektra, the Transvestite. It will be a block-buster!
Pussycat Dolls as the Rhinemaidens
Bob Dylan as Loge
Tom Waits as Wotan
Eminem as Siegmund
Lady Gaga as Sieglinde
David Lee Roth as Siegfried
Madonna as Brunnhilde
I think you are becoming desperate for material---what next I ask myself ?
Anyway, being a true classical type I know no popsters--so i'll B----- of before you tell me to.
Bob Dylan had a natural voice for Mime. I remember one reviewer saying about Gehard Stoltz that 'when you hear his whining, snivelling Mime you wonder why he became an opera singer'
But what about Jon Bon Jovi for Seigmund? 'Wanted - dead or alive' by Hunding.
A lot of 80's metal singers might fit the bill for ever so slightly adolescent and rambunctious Germanic hero figures of Siegmund and Siegfried. I can imagine Harry Conklin in particular as a good Sigfried
