I was somewhat surprised to find that there does not appear to be a specific discussion of favoured recordings of Beethoven's 9th on this forum, or at least not when I filtered it. I will get the ball rolling with:
Ferenc Fricsay and BPO.
Von Karajan and BPO (1963)
Furtwängler and Philharmonia...
So, this is interesting. I seem to recall a majority of TC members steering me towards Eugen Jochum's Dresden, rather than his earlier BPO/Bavarian RSO Bruckner recordings. Whereas on a FB Bruckner site I got more or less the opposite advice.
Anyone care to elaborate for me the differences...
There can only be one!
Well, I suppose they could work out an arrangement to have both, or I suppose ditch em both and get Chailly or someone like that....but who does TC want to be the next face of the BPO?
Does anyone know whether the Decca set of Symphonies 35, 36, 38, 39, 40, 41 (BPO conducted by Bohm, Amazon ID B000001GQB) is the same performance of those (particularly the 40th) as the full Decca box set (Amazon ID B001VVIMLG)?
I really like the performance of the 40th Symphony in the smaller...
