I have a decent collection of Fidelio CD sets (and all of the Leonores available). But I am wondering if I am missing any really good ones. I am thinking that I really have to get the one conducted by Bohm with Gwyneth Jones.
Here is what I have listed by conductor / Leonore
IMO a much better work than Symphonie Fantastique and Harold en Italie. I have listened to the recordings of Toscanini, Monteux and Davis. All are impressive, but I still feel like something is missing.
What do you think about this piece, and what are your favorite performances?
(US) American's are often portrayed as not significantly adding to the classical repertoire. I believe that there has been a substantial contribution in the genre of solo piano music.
