I'm looking for information on the first release by Decca of the complete Solti Ring in a single package. I'm aware of the luxurious packaging of the 1970 release, but was there an earlier release? If so, how was it packaged? musicologyman

https://www.spectator.co.uk/2019/07/from-the-nhs-to-bayreuth-norman-lebrecht-talks-to-midwife-turned-opera-singer-catherine-foster/ Has anyone heard her? It is one of the most interesting stories about how one became a singer. One could also call the article: From The Queen of the Night to...

I currently own the Solti (2009 re-release) and Keilberth (1955) on Testament recordings of the Wagner Ring Cycle. I'm thinking about next steps in my Wagner library . . . what would you all recommend? I could start saving my pennies on another Ring recording (like a more modern one or an...

Hi All! So sorry if this has been posted. Did a search and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know if we are ever going to see the final two installments of Gergiev's Ring? I'm dying to hear Stemme's Siegfried and Gotterdammerung. I ripped the Milan Ring to CD so I could hear her Siegfried...

Sure, it's easy enough for people to poke fun at Wagner's Ring and do parodies of it, such as the late Anna Russell , but to call its story and situations absurd and ridiculous actually misses the point altogether . I actually enjoy these spoofs myself . The Ring is mythology and fantasy . So...

Don't be afraid. There's no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to the Ring Cycle. Whether we're looking for facts, opinions or suppositions, let's ask and respond to questions about our favourite operatic tetralogy. I'll kick off with this one: Why does the whole four opera work...

So I have available Solti's Rheingold and Götterdämmerung already available, and don't like repeat copies....hence looking elsewhere for a full Ring. I should wait and research and sample. But history suggests that I may buy a Ring Cycle within a week! These three appeal. I value sheer beauty...

Thought it might be nice to list them here for English speakers like me. :) I'll start with the Boulez/Chereau Ring and the Jurowski/Glyndebourne Meistersinger. What other youtube operas have English subtitles? :tiphat:

"After engineering a record player that could actually withstand playing a cross-sectional piece of wood, he filtered the input through Ableton Live, which interpreted the data into a piano track. " Here is the article.

I watched a preview of various parts. What spectacular staging! I have never seen staging like this before. It may well be avant-garde but it is so out there that it is just something. The parts that I listened to sounded well played under ZM and the singers sounded good. I would like to...

Rather than just the whole Wagner catalogue I'm interested in your opinions of recordings of this act as an entity of its own. One of the many peculiarities of the Ring is that this is many fans' favourite act of the Ring, yet contains only 3 relatively minor characters. Help me make sense of...

I gotta have it............:) Decca proudly presents the definitive high bit-depth transfer of this legendary recording, carefully remastered in 2012. The set features: An anti-scratch matt finish 16CD + Bonus CD-Rom capbox box set containing Soltis immortal recording of Wagners Der Ring...

In 1987 Tom Holt published the book Expecting Someone Taller, a 'sequel' to the Ring set in contemporary England. One wet night, Malcolm Fisher, a hapless auction clerk runs over a badger while driving home. He gets out to check the damage only to have the badger talk to him and explain that...

Hi everyone. I was just searching for upcoming performances of Wagner's Ring Cycle, and this company was one of the groups putting it on in 2016. I know nothing about the company, and also nothing about the Southbank Centre in London. Could someone here clue me in on the quality of...

stole the idea from another thread  imo 1) Attila (Verdi). Attila is probably the most underrated of all of Verdi's works 2) Assur (Rossini's Semiramide) 3) Wotan (The Ring Cycle) 4) Bluebeard (Bluebeard's Castle) 5) Maometto (Rossini's Maometto Secondo). like Attila, it is hugely...

Some few years ago I published a brief article on S&F titled Wagner's Business, Not Ours that set off a storm of protest on a Wagner Usenet Newsgroup the ferocity of which was unexpected but on second thought shouldn't have been as the article seemed to call into question (although it actually...

I am working on trying to find individual opera album covers for the latest edition of the Solti Ring. The ones on Amazon are all square and not the greatest scans so I am hoping that one can help me get album art for each of the four operas. Looking for high resolution. Thanks!
