I am listening to Mahler's 2nd by Klemperer and I am floored by its enhanced bass whilst retaining crystal clear mids and beautiful quick treble that is no longer piercing! It is way more neutral than the brighter HD800. The HD800 may suit older ears that lose their treble sensitivity though.
Klemperer's Mahler 2 sounds great through the HD 650s.

I've made a number of upgrades in the past few months, so here is a current list of gear:

DALI Epicon 2 speakers
SVS SB13 Ultra sub
Pass Labs INT-150 integrated amp
Esoteric K-03 SACD player
Oppo 105 Blu-ray player
VPI Scout 1.1 turntable/Ortofon 2M cartridge
Parasound ZPhono phono stage
Sennheiser HD800 headphones
Woo Audio WA6 headphone amp
Nordost, Audio Analysis interconnects; Kimber Kable speaker cables

The Parasound will be replaced with a Musical Surroundings Nova II phono pre-amp as soon as my wife approves another purchase!
Yet more updates!

I bought a PrimaLuna Premium Dialogue HP tube amp to replace the Pass Labs INT-150, a pair of Audeze LCD-XC headphones to replace the Sennheisers, and I just sold the Woo Audio since my new amp has a headphone output. (I sold the replaced items as well.)

I think I'm satisfied for a while. ;)

Congratulations on your upgrade!

What got better with the tube amp?

On your system:

What do you prefer?

The K03 or your analog source?

Regards¡

Dr. Bartolo,

To me, the tubes sound far richer, more detailed, and simply more realistic than the solid state Pass Labs, which is a very good amp. As to source material, that varies widely. Well-recorded LPs are probably the best overall, but since my K-03 upsamples, most well recorded CDs, and certainly SACDs, sound very good. The convenience factor of not having to flip sides/changes records factors in, too.

Hi Kontrapunctus:

I agree with you.
Although there are many solid state amplifiers sound very good, as your Pass, naturalness and musicality of the tubes is unmatched ... with the right speaker.
Esoteric K03 is a great player ... and you're right, sometimes we thank avoid spinning disks ... especially the 45 RPM:(

Enjoy your sistem!!

Many of those old Pioneer turntables will run a long time with some maintenance and proper lubrication. I bought mine in a thrift store back in the early 90's for $10. All it needed was cleaning up, a new cart, and a new belt. A lot of people that have the 112D's wouldn't give them up for any reason. In fact all my main system is 70's Pioneer except the CD player which is a JVC XL-FZ258 that I have had for maybe 10 years. I hope the JVC lasts for a while longer because good quality CD players are getting hard to find.

Everything sounds more natural with the right speaker. The transducer is what has a sound. The rest is just electronic signals which are either accurate and balanced, or colored and distorted. Pair accurate and balanced with the right speaker and you have the best of both worlds.

What about the Left speaker does that matter at all.

Based on good reviews and budget price, I purchased these VJJB dual driver headphones today, I'm hoping they were a good buy. Anyone have thoughts on these particular headphones or the technology?

Never heard. Know them only as a product of China... there's a pretty big movement in eastern Asian for good quality audio gear. Hopefully you didn't fork out too much money! Let us know how you find them.

My usual setup is:

Fiio E17 DAC with Sennheiser HD 598's. I listen to lossless AIFF files ripped from CDs through my MacBook.

My vinyl setup is a Technics SL-L25 linear-tracking turntable with a Harmon/Kardon receiver. :)
