Best Original Musical or Comedy Score - 1996
This poll is for the first part of the competition Talkclassical Best Film Score Award and it will close on January 18.

Closed. Pocahontas has won, so it's qualified for the second part of this competition.
Alan Menken is classically trained, so I would say that it's not surprising that he is able to write good symphonic music.I'm obviously too late for the poll, but I'd comment that the music of Menken always seems to be surprisingly good for a composer I'd pegged as being a simple songwriter.
If it's a film of 1996, it belongs to the Oscars of 1997. So, maybe the right discussion will be the one which I'll open soon for the "Best Original Dramatic Score 1997".Maybe it's a bit late for reply but.. In my research, I found that the score for the movie "Evita" stands out as a remarkable achievement. Its captivating melodies and powerful orchestration perfectly complement the story and characters. The fusion of Latin rhythms and traditional musical theater elements creates a truly immersive experience. Overall, "Evita" deserves recognition for its outstanding original musical score in 1996.
However I don't know the film Evita. I only know that Pocahontas has a stunning score to my ears, and I'm not a fan of the Disney animated films.
