This poll is for the TC best pieces of J.S. Bach award.

The current king is BWV 1056.

The challenger is BWV 1080 ("Art of Fugue").

The challenger has been posted here: Music without lyrics - Post here your favourite pieces of J.S. Bach for this category

The poll is a union between two questions:
  • What do you prefer between the king (BWV 1056) and the challenger (BWV 1080)?

I realized that the execution of BWV 1080 I provided was incomplete. Now there are two full pieces: one with organ and an other one with piano.
What’s the definitive/preferred piano version of BWV 1056?

I adore Staier for the harpsichord version…

Why is the first movement so fast in the Staier's version? Is usually not slower?

There is no tempo indication for the first movement.
I don't find Staier's version fast - it's about right. However, the first movement of the piano version in post #1 is downright sluggish.

Just checked the timings. That YouTube version is about 10sec faster than my iTunes copy.
BWV 1080 ("Art of Fugue") wins and becomes the new king.

Individual score of BWV 1080: (4*6 + 1*3) / 5 = 27 / 5 = 5.4
