Hello,

My name is Daniel, and I am from Germany and am 18 years old.

I compose, play the piano and violin and I like music so much. I am still going to high-school for one year, after it I will hopefully study composition. I am also interested in all kinds of arts, literature, painting and drawing...

James and I started this forum, because we want to have great discussions about music, and that we all will share our experiences.

Greetings,
Daniel

It takes passion to perform, but to compose, that is to breathe and live music.
Would be my dream.....but first they must take me and secondly there remains the question what to do after studying....living as composer is rather impossible today or you are filmmusic composer, but there it's hard to get in the business and it's also a very stressy job....well time will solve my "problem" :p

I have a friend who studied audio engineering and major in composition, I heard that he's earning big bucks now, teaching pop singers basic theory, vocal skills and writing songs for em. But I think it's a real pity, as he's really a marvellous pianist. I think it's sad when u deviate from your strengths or beliefs to earn a decent living.
I have another who majors in composition also. He's working as an art director for the Singapore Lyric Theatre....The pay is not that high, but I can tell that he's a much happier man than my first friend.
If u're only willing to compose classical or film music, then it's going to be hard. Unless you are reputable for that and highly sought after, which will not happen unless u emerge from some competition.
So my opinion, if u really love composition and look foward to having it as a career, then give yrself as much exposure as possible. U have to make people know u, and it's all a dark, dark world. U'll have to pull strings.

I think being a big fish in a big pond is hard, no matter what you do...there are only so many household names anyone can remember...

...but if that's what you want to do...you should go for it...you might not get where you want to be, but you might end up somewhere nice along that way that you didn't know existed...

...just be careful to maintain your integrety and not get 'sucked in by the Dark Side' *strange, heavy, creepy, mechanical breathing*
