[baroque flute]

You're probably wondering who I am...on the violin forum my user name is justbeginning Baroque music in general is my favorite, though I like a wide variety of composers and pieces (and not only classical music). Right now, other than composing using the electric keyboard, what I spend the most time playing is flute and baroque flute, which is also known as recorder. I've taken a look around and I think I'm going to like it here. B) Way to go, Daniel!

Looks like I didn't make things clear. I was calling recorder baroque flute because that is the main "flute" that Handel and Bach and their contemporaries used. They used flauto traverso too but not as much. I play recorder and regular Boehm flute.

I don't know alot of woodwind repertoires...so it's really great to have a flautist among our midst. It's great how we learn from one another in such communities, ain't it?

My current recorder reportoire is the first piece from Suite 3 of the Water music by Handel, and "Thou Didst Not Leave His Soul In Hell" from Handel's Messiah. I love how those sound on recorder, with trills and ornaments. I also play the the instrumental part of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring", and the theme from Dvorak's Slavonic Dance in E minor (Op. 46?#2). That last one is one of my all-time favorites.

With flute I am playing simpler things right now. I had been playing Gluck's Dance of the Blessed Spirits, and a couple others I can't remember, but the G key mechanism became slightly bent making many of the notes not work, and I didn't know what it was and wasn't able to get it looked into. Anyway, I am back to playing the flute but I still have a little ways to go to catch up to where I was I am practicing the opening theme of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake Suite. Mainly I need to strengthen my lungs again and practice good breathing. The high notes on the flute take more wind than any instrument except the tuba!

One of my personal fav. I love Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake also, are u doing the opening only or part of a programme with an ensemble?

Mainly I need to strengthen my lungs again and practice good breathing. The high notes on the flute take more wind than any instrument except the tuba!

What ex do u so to strengthen your lungs? Is it the same as what we do for vocal training? This I'm always curious to know.
Do u play the piccolo?

I am just using practice to strengthen my lungs. I don't play the piccolo right now but I might learn some time. It should be pretty easy since I know flute. I just play the melody line of the overture to Swan Lake, as a solo. Not anything can make a good solo, but that is an exquisite piece.
