Bought late last night:

That set has been very difficult to find for a very long time. I ended up getting various other recordings, but less complete.
Strange that there wasn't any budget release, or a release on some other budget label, as far as I know; it's possible this is the case for many Madge recordings, they tend to become rare.

Yeah, I found this set for a decent price, so I jumped on it since this composer has been under my radar for years. I own a good bit of his music on disc already, but none of the solo piano music.

Special edit: I actually own one disc of solo piano music before buying this Madge set on Philips that came in a Capriccio set dedicated to this composer.

Ordered some Havergal Brian and Maurice Durufle!

This is by far my favorite recording of Duruflé's Requiem. There are three arrangements of this work and this one with Matthew Best uses the version for voices and small orchestra. The happy medium between the large orchestral version and the version for organ. Also, the vocalists in this Best recording (Ann Murray and Thomas Allen) give beautiful performances. Anyway, I'm not sure if you're new to this work or not, but it's a masterpiece without a doubt in my mind.

Honestly, I am familiar with the work, but not THAT familiar with it. I've mainly listened to the full orchestral version; mainly Andrew Davis, but also Shaw & Guest, but I am trying to familiarize myself with the chamber version. My search led me to Matthew Best, but I've also listened to Cleobury. Any other recommendations?

Bought earlier from Discogs:

I can't judge the other recordings because I haven't listened to them, but Abbado's Gurrelieder is wonderful!

Check out the composer's own recording --- it would be my second favorite recording:

Great to read! It's hard to go wrong with Abbado in general. Such a wonderful conductor.

Respighi - The Birds and Ancient Airs & Dances
View attachment 185201

John Neschling's Respighi series on BIS has been very fine so far, and this latest instalment is no exception.
Yeah, I preordered this one. Definitely looking forward to it. If I'm not mistaken, this will be the last recording in Neschling's Respighi series on BIS. Knowing my luck, they'll box it up after I acquired all of the individual releases.
